MTN aims to provide 5G coverage to 1 in 4 South Africans by the end of 2022
MTN South Africa is ramping up its rollout of 5G and is aiming to have at least 25% of SA covered by the end of 2022. It will be focusing on expanding into the main metros, peri-urban areas, and larger townships.
Compared to older mobile networks – it has speeds of up to 10 times faster than 4G and the potential to be 100 times faster - 5G makes enjoying services like video streaming and online gaming problem free, as there is no buffering when it comes accessing content. MTN already has 555 5G sites in Gauteng; increasing to 575 when Rustenburg and Brits areas in the North West come online shortly, and this expansion will continue.
