The directors of Ms. Marvel reveal if Kamala Khan or her family were snapped during the MCU's Blip. Ms. Marvel just concluded its six-episode run on July 13, with Iman Vellani's young hero finally suited up in the MCU. The series ended with big hints about the future of the franchise, offering the MCU's first reference to mutants and an after-credit moment setting up 2023's Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.
However, one notable element not referenced in the series is the Blip, the in-universe name for the events of Avengers: Infinity War, when Thanos wiped away half of all life in the universe. The Blip was a massive moment in the MCU that changed the entire status of the franchise and impacted many of the various heroes and villains.
“Well, I would assume that, seeing how the family dynamic is with them, I have a feeling that none of them got snapped. But whenever we ask Kevin about, ‘What about The Snap or The Blip? Do we reference it at all?’ He would say, ‘Don’t worry about it. Focus on the story, focus just on that, don’t ask too many questions about other movies, other shows and all that.’ That was sort of his mantra for Ms. Marvel.
Some Phase 4 entries like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye directly addressed the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and how the Blip impacted the world. However, Ms. Marvel has more in common with Moon Knight, as both are shows that introduce new heroes into the franchise. They need to make sure the characters can stand on their own, so it means the larger universe worldbuilding is downplayed, or proves to be virtually non-existent.
Ms. Marvel will next appear in The Marvels. As that film will have both Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, who were both impacted by the Blip, there is a chance it will finally be discussed in the sequel. It is currently unknown if Ms. Marvel will return for season 2. If it does with Kamala and her supporting characters firmly established, the five years during the Blip could be addressed.
