Motlanthe promises tight criteria for selection of ANC local election candidates
The date of the elections is October 27, but they could be pushed back if the Electoral Commission of SA succeeds in an application it has made to the Constitutional Court to defer the vote to February.
The electoral committee has reviewed and improved the candidates’ selection process to ensure that communities make final decisions on the selection of the candidateThese processes, he added, were designed to screen and balance the list of candidates, and to ensure gender representation and skills required in local government.
Motlanthe said his committee, which comprised eight people, was mandated to come up with rules to guide the nomination of candidates.
