Goalkeeper Liam Kelly, winger Blair Spittal and defender Shane Blaney are major doubts

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell is in a race against the clock as he faces a sweat over three first-team players ahead of Saturday’s Premiership visit by St Mirren.

And Kettlewell admits that the international break saved him from being in a real pinch, had the game been played last weekend.“I think a lot of the long-term ones that we spoke about, your Jon Obika, Mika Biereth, Conor Wilkinson, Pape Souare, we kind of know where they are.“I think the club had mentioned about Blair Spittal, Liam Kelly was documented, Shane Blaney, so that’s another three we need to add in to the mix.

More sports news from across Lanarkshire “In terms of the injury list, if it was played last week we’d have been in a real tight spot, in terms of trying to fulfil a full squad.Kettlewell is particularly concerned about Kelly and Spittal, but says everything they can do is being done. “He has done a lot of travelling to make sure he’s seen the best people to put him in place to try and have a chance to play in the game, but I can’t confirm that, unfortunately.“Blair is a guy who trains every single day, so the fact that he’s not been able to train is an obvious concern.
