Western Washington is about to experience its first warm spell of the year, with high temperatures expected to hit the 80s during Mother's Day weekend.

A ridge of high pressure combined with a thermal trough at the surface will send us well above normal temperatures over the next two days. Temperatures are expected to hit the low 80s in Seattle and the warmest areas will see highs in the mid-80s by the afternoon Friday and Saturday.
Hot temperatures also pose the risk of sunburn, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Preventative measures such as wearing sunscreen, staying hydrated and keeping children and pets out of hot vehicles will keep residents safe during the rise in temperatures.
