It'll be a busy Mother's Day weekend in the Puget Sound region, with toasty weather, a presidential visit and the Seattle Mariners returning to T-Mobile Park.

Crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation are taking advantage of theWeekend-long lane reductions are coming to Interstate 5 in Everett . Thebetween Everett and Marysville reduces the northbound freeway to one lane. This roadwork starts before 10 p.m. Friday and the road should reopen before the morning commute starts on Monday. The off-ramps to Pacific Avenue and Marine View Drive will be closed, as well as the on-ramps from Everett Avenue and US 2.

“With the HOV lane extending from downtown Everett to 529, that'll help smooth out traffic flow," Tom Pearce of the WSDOT said. "Also, with the off ramp to 529, it'll provide a second way to get into the city of Marysville." Next, expect to see lane reductions for the SR 529 project, which will reduce the northbound side of the Snohomish River Bridge to a single lane 24 hours a day.

“The SR 529 bridge is 97 years old, and we need to do routine maintenance, replace steel, work on mechanical repairs, raise it and it also needs to be painted,” Pearce said.is back. Northbound lane reductions return to I-5 Saturday night for crews to install roadway sensors. People who rely on I-5 should prepare for lane reductions beginning Saturday near Boeing Access Road. The roadway should reopen early Sunday morning.

For drivers who travel between Seattle and the eastside, SR 520 will close over Lake Washington for repairs beginning Friday evening until early Monday morning. An eastbound I-90 closure is also planned Friday night through Saturday morning for repairs in the Mount Baker Tunnel. The WSDOT said, as always, allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes.
