A 25-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on a New York City subway train on Wednesday, according to MTA officials.
The birth took place around 11:30 a.m. on a southbound W train stopped at the 34th Street-Herald Square station. The train had just into the station when passengers notified the conductor that a woman had given birth inside one of the subway cars. The MTA says straphangers banded together to help the woman when they realized what was happening, while a good Samaritan called 911.Both the mother and baby were conscious and alert."This is another example of New Yorkers coming together to help each other, assisted by caring transit workers and other responders, reflecting the best of the subway community and this city," said NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow in a statement.
