Houston may experience severe weather including large hail, damaging winds, and possibly tornadoes on Saturday.

Houston gets much-needed break from rain and storms Friday, eyeing more storms for Saturday. The threat for Houston looks lower than it was on Thursday, but the potential is there for all modes of severe weather , including large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado or two. Parts of the Houston area have been placed in a slight risk of severe weather on Saturday. An approaching cold front will trigger the development of thunderstorms.

Places to the east across Louisiana and Mississippi will be dealing with a fairly significant risk of tornadoes. For us in the immediate Houston area, the threat appears to be less, but it is still there. A few showers and thunderstorms will probably be ongoing in the morning, especially to the east and along the coast. By noon Saturday, more showers and storms will develop across the area. Near the Louisiana border, this model shows strong storms firing up. These storms could be supercells capable of producing all modes of severe weather. A few of the models show these storms firing up closer to the Houston area. This remains to be seen as to where and if these storms fire like the models suggest, but any storm that fires ahead of the cold front will need to be watched closely for the chance of severe weather. Our severe weather threat will come to an end in the mid-afternoon as a cold front moves through. We could see a broken line of storms on the cold front
