We must remain honest about where we are, committed to where we must improve, and intentional about choosing peace over violence.”Violent crime decreased by more than 25%Non-fatal shootings dropped nearly 14%Hundreds of seized firearms were potentially linked to other crimes Reed credited the progress to law-enforcement efforts, community efforts, and residents working daily to stop the violence. “This progress does not happen by accident,” Reed said. “It happens because of strong partnerships, accountability, and people choosing something better—even when it’s harder.” Mayor Reed also announced that the Montgomery Police Department saw a spike in public interest in law enforcement jobs and will soon begin recruitment and retention incentive programs, including thousands of dollars in yearly bonuses for officers.Mayor Reed also called for an expansion of Aniah’s Law to address concerns raised by law enforcement leadership about repeat violent offenders being released shortly after arrest.plan, saying that nearly 80% of the plan’s 120 steps are either underway or completed. Finally, Reed invited residents to attend the 2026 State of the City Address in February at Frazer Church, where he plans to outline priorities for the year ahead. “I’m proud of the momentum we’ve built,” Reed said. “And I look forward to where that momentum will take Montgomery next.”
