As he addresses the concerns of the community the interim chief also wants to hear the needs of his officers. He says improving morale is a priority and that starts with letting officers know they are valued. The Montgomery Police Department faces a shortage of men and women in uniform, but Graboys says they are trying to retain the officers they have and hire new ones. He says the department has started an early hire program.Multiple law enforcement agencies announced a new, joint crime suppression unit for the city of Montgomery on Thursday called the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, or MACS.
Two weeks in, he believes the department is seeing positive change, but he also says it will take time to turn it around.
