Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) We're getting a closer look at a proposed change for the Monroe County Court arraignment process.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello released his proposed $1.5 billion budget Friday, that highlights public safety, including establishing a Centralized Arraignment Court Part in the Hall of Justice. "It saves resources from our towns, villages, in the city,” Bello explained. “Helps get police back on the streets as quickly as possible after they make an arrest, and it puts some order here around the arraignment process to create a regular schedule of arraignments.""County taxpayers are already paying for centralized location with the county jail and the hall of justice, so it doesn’t really make sense to have dozens of different processes taking place,” Bello said.
"We can now get the input of pretrial services with regard to potential release, or again, engaging with treatment programs or kind of getting ahead of the ball a little bit,” Cianca explained. "So, rather then having to wait until the next morning and get a referral in, we may have someone right in the courtroom who can provide those services.
