A grassroots network connects mothers in need with those offering help during the devastating California wildfires.

As firefighters battle wildfires that have ravaged southern California since January 7th, families who have lost almost everything are grappling with the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. Amidst the chaos and devastation, one concerned mother took initiative and launched a grassroots network to connect mothers in need with those eager to offer support.

Lisa Conn, a Los Angeles mom, was contacted by a friend from out of state who wanted to send baby clothes to a family affected by the fires. Conn shared the offer on her Instagram stories and within minutes, a California mom reached out requesting the items. As more women expressed their desire to help, Conn began developing the Moms Helping Moms project, aiming to channel donations directly to those who urgently needed them. 'I created a form, and it started spreading rapidly through mom groups in Nashville, New York, Vancouver, and beyond,' Conn explained to TODAY. 'By the end of the first day, we had over 2,500 requests, and now we're at over 5,000.' Direct donations prove invaluable to mothers who 'don't have time to visit donation centers and sort through countless items,' Conn emphasized. 'We create a match that allows the helping mother to send items directly to their doorstep.'Beyond material assistance, Moms Helping Moms is fostering a sense of community among parents. Some connect through in-person meetups or video calls, forging meaningful relationships in the midst of adversity. To date, the group has provided aid to 200 women with children displaced by the wildfires. Marissa Williams, a mother of a newborn who has received help from Conn's network, shared her experience with NBC, stating that she lost a village but gained another. If you need assistance or wish to offer support to another mother, you can visit the Moms Helping Moms platform to find a match
