It was the kind of optics perfect for the topic at hand- a struggling elderly homeowner receiving help from a church-based volunteer group called Mission Serve.

Today, their efforts were praised by Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson .But there was another housing issue that caught the mayor's attention a few hours earlier.

Thursday afternoon, Michael Pierce sat down with NBC 15 News to respond to questions about the letter to his board of directors, a letter not addressed to the mayor, but one he knew would eventually be seen by him. Pierce says the Stimpson administration has been eager to obtain land from the housing authority at no cost, something the mayor did indeed propose in a letter to Pierce in 2022.

Pierce says current occupancy of livable units is now more than 98%, drawing praise from HUD, and says that should be drawing praise from the city as well.
