The city of Mobile on Thursday asked a federal judge to dismiss a wrongful-death lawsuit alleging that a SWAT Team officer unlawfully shot a man last year.
This image from a Ring camera shows Kordell Jones on the ground shortly after a SWAT Team officer shot him on March 7, 2023, in Mobile, Alabama. The family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Mobile and the Police Department on Thursday, March 7, 2024.The city maintains that the plaintiff’s attorney, Willie Huntley, failed to file a claim with the city within six months of the March 2023 incident, as required by law.
City Clerk Lisa Lambert wrote in a sworn affidavit that a “diligent search of the records” turned up “no records, claims or sworn statements” related to the lawsuit.“We have a date-stamped copy of the claim from the city, and it was well within the six-month limit,” he told FOX10 News. The SWAT Team surrounded a house in the 800 block of Charles Street. Police were at the home as part of an investigation into a robbery that Jason Terrel Jones is accused of committing. Jones’ brother, Kordell Jones climbed out of a bedroom window in the back of the house. He was naked and armed with an automatic weapon, according to police.
