Missouri bolsters its defense by securing the services of former UNLV safety Jalen Catalon, a proven performer with a year of eligibility remaining.
The Missouri Tigers have strengthened their defensive secondary by adding former UNLV safety Jalen Catalon . Catalon, who has one year of eligibility remaining, will join the Tigers after playing for Texas in 2023 and Arkansas from 2019-2022. Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz prioritizes 'production over potential' in roster building, and Catalon's track record aligns with this approach. Catalon showcased his talent in 2024, appearing in all 14 games for UNLV primarily at free safety.
He earned First Team All-Mountain West honors and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in college football. Catalon recorded 75 total tackles and five interceptions, allowing 26 receptions for 426 yards while being targeted 46 times, according to Pro Football Focus. This acquisition marks Missouri's third addition at safety, joining Santana Banner from Northern Illinois and Mose Phillips III from Virginia Tech. Catalon is the Tigers' 15th addition through the transfer portal and eighth defensive player. The Tigers are preparing to lose three key safeties: Sidney Williams, Tre'Vez Johnson, and starter Joseph Charleston, all of whom have exhausted their eligibility. However, they welcome Catalon to a promising group of young defenders, including sophomores Marvin Burks and Trajen Greco, who have already made contributions in their early careers
