The boy was last seen about 40 minutes before he was reported missing to police, investigators said.

A 4-year-old boy missing less than an hour was found submerged in a lake in Hamilton Township in Mercer County Thursday evening, authorities said.

Hamilton police said they were called to Overlook Avenue near John A. Roebling Memorial Park shortly after 5 p.m. for a report of a missing child, who was last 40 minutes prior. About an hour after searching, officers spotted the boy’s body in Spring Lake, in the northeastern section of the park, behind Overlook Avenue in the Broad Street Park neighborhood. Members of the Hamilton Township Fire Department pulled the boy from the water and rushed him to a hospital, where he where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s identity was not made public late Thursday. The incident is under investigation by Hamilton police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force.
