MIRI: Miri Hospital has issued a statement denying that it is conducting a public donation drive for the fight against Covid-19.
This comes after the hospital was alerted that there have been unscrupulous people going around Miri capitalising on the Covid-19 outbreak to solicit donations, claiming they represent the hospital staff and Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment there.
"It has come to our attention that certain individuals and groups are going around claiming that they are collecting donations from the public for Miri Hospital to be used for hospital staff and patients affected by the Covid-19 infections."Their fund-raising attempts have gone viral on social media. They are causing confusion among the public.
"Miri Hospital management wants to make it clear that we have never assigned any individuals or groups or organisations to collect funds for our hospital staffs or for Covid-19 patients."We, Miri Hospital, have not started any such public donation drive," said the press statement.A 60-year-old pastor in Kuching died from the virus on Tuesday in the state capital, the first Covid-19 related death in the country.
