The report highlights more than a billion dollars spent at Alaska-based businesses for goods and services, as well as more than a billion dollars in wages paid to employees.
That’s according to a report from the McKinley Research Group, whose work was commissioned by Alaska Metal Mines , along with the Alaska Miners Association .
Touting what it calls economic benefits and job support for thousands in Alaska last year, a press release on Wednesday from the AMA calls the industry a powerhouse. Finally, according to the report, more than $5 million in charitable giving was paid out by mining companies. In the press release, Karen Matthias, Executive Director of Alaska Metal Mines, was quoted as saying, “Alaska’s mining sector is a driving force for local economies throughout the state,” said “Alaska’s mines work hard to buy local and hire local. They also invest in university and vocational programs to train Alaskans for these high-paying jobs both now and in the future.
