An Alaska lawmaker is pushing for more arctic security, after four People’s Republic of China military ships were seen this month in the Bering Sea.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An Alaska U.S. senator is pushing for more arctic security after four People’s Republic of China military ships were seen in the Bering Sea.on July 6 and 7 around 124 miles north of the Amchitka Pass, a strait of water in the Western Aleutian Islands.
According to the Coast Guard, the vessels followed all international laws and norms, as they traveled inside the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone. The presence of Russian and Chinese vessels near Alaska has been growing over the past few years, Coast Guard officials said. Since 2021, the USCG stated that it has seen foreign ships at least once a year.
