People getting their milk from Waitrose, Aldi or Sainsbury's may notice the changes

Supermarket shoppers have been sharing their confusion online at the move by several major UK supermarkets to replace coloured milk tops with clear lids. People getting their milk from Waitrose, Aldi or Sainsbury's may notice the changes, which the retailers say they have made to try and reduce plastic waste.

Aldi first announced in August that it was getting rid of green milk bottle tops as part of a trial to reduce waste. Waitrose and Sainsbury's have also made the change, the Liverpool Echo reports. Some customers have said on Twitter that the change has left them confused, but the supermarkets say that the new tops can be recycled in contrast to the coloured ones. The retailers also say that the labels still features the original colours, allowing people to make the correct choice.

"By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging."
