Queensland Premier Steven Miles has touted his government's bold public transport initiative to slash fares to 50 cents, as the first day of the trial kicks off across the state.will see the fare for all Translink public transport servicesMr Miles took advantage of the flat fares on Monday morning, opting to catch the train from Mango Hill in the Moreton Bay Region into the Brisbane CBD for work.

"We are seeing an increase in use of services, but not too much crowding and that’s really what we wanted to avoid," the Premier said. "So hopefully if we can make up that difference, then we can declare the trial a success and in the process Queenslanders would have saved a lot of money and hopefully would have taken some people off the road as well."Whether the ticket price would remain at 50 cents or another dollar amount should the trial continue is"something we can have a discussion about", Mr Miles said.

Voters have been quick to praise the massive fare drop, with some saying it will save them hundreds of dollars a month.
