The leading health expert has explained how one simple exercise you can do everyday could be the key to reducing your risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Michael Mosley has revealed that one simple exercise you can perform daily is the key to potentially reducing your risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Michael discussed a 2023 study in his podcast that found that deep breathing daily for a period of four weeks saw a decline in amyloid beta - a protein that is linked to the development of Alzheimer's disease. He said: "Strikingly in a 2023 study, researchers found that after just four weeks of slow breathing, participants had significantly lower levels of amyloid beta, which is a protein linked to the development of Alzheimer's.

Professor Mather said: "As you slow your breathing down, you take in more air and your lungs stretch more. And there are stretch receptors in your lungs that send signals via the vagus nerve. So every time you take longer, bigger breaths, those signals are going to be stronger than if you're breathing more quickly and more shallowly.

The British Heart Foundation noted that this method is called box breathing due to the exercise's four steps forming a box shape.
