Mexican drug cartels have escalated their tactics by ordering members to target U.S. Border Patrol agents with kamikaze drones and explosives, according to an internal memo. This escalation comes amidst a crackdown at the southern border by the Trump administration. The memo, obtained by the New York Post, warns agents of social media posts and intelligence indicating the threat. Meanwhile, cartels have also been inciting violence against ICE agents on social media, urging illegal immigrants to harass and assault them.
Mexican drug cartels have issued orders to their members to target U.S. Border Patrol agents using kamikaze drones and other explosives. This escalation comes amidst a crackdown at the southern border by the Trump administration. An internal memo, labeled 'Officer Safety Alert,' warned federal agents about social media posts and other intelligence indicating the threat.
The memo, obtained by the New York Post, urged agents to remain vigilant, wear ballistic armor, and utilize their long firearms. The memo, from the El Paso Sector Intelligence and Operations Center (EPT-IOC) dated February 1, 2025, details the intelligence received: 'It is recommended that all US Border Patrol agents and DoD personnel working along the border report any sighting of drones to their respective leadership staff and the EPT-IOC.' News Nation, the first to report the memo, also revealed that Mexican drug cartels have used TikTok and other social media platforms to incite violence against ICE agents. They have urged illegal immigrants to spit on, urinate on, and defecate in their vehicles, and have even called for assassins to target border personnel.Last week, Border Patrol agents came under fire from cartel members in Mexico while patrolling in Fronton, Texas. The cartel members, fleeing from a military presence, sought refuge on an island between Mexico and the United States. This warning coincides with the Trump administration's intensified efforts to deport illegal immigrants with criminal records and strengthen border security. The memo suggests that cartel leaders perceive a proactive U.S. presence on the border as a threat to their drug and human smuggling operations. Last week, U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) proposed authorizing private security firms or trained civilians to target drug cartels for profit. Lee argued that this 'privateering' approach could save American taxpayers money, as the privateers would be compensated based on their captures and assets brought back to the U.S
