The Mets chose their final bench bat and reliever on Wednesday while three players were designated for assignment.

Jared Young and lefty Richard Lovelady won the bench and bullpen competitions, respectively, on the eve of the club’s season opener Thursday at Citi Field against the Pirates. The also-runs in the races — infielder Vidal Brujan, lefty Bryan Hudson and catcher Ben Rortvedt — were designated for assignment Wednesday.
