The Metropolitan Police is conducting further enquiries into the actions of officers who appealed against the initial decision not to charge TV presenter Caroline Flack. The police had appealed against the Crown Prosecution Service's recommendation of a caution and instead charged Flack with assault by beating. The investigation comes after potential new witness evidence emerged. Flack's family has lodged a complaint with the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The Met said it was making ‘further enquiries’ into the actions of officers who appealed against the initial decision not to charge the TV presenter recommended that the former Love Island presenter receive a caution after an incident with her boyfriend in December 2019, but this was overturned after an appeal from the Met Police and she was instead charged with assault by beating.

However, the IOPC returned one aspect of the complaint back to the Met’s directorate of professional standards . A spokesperson for the IOPC said: “On the basis there may be new witness evidence available, we returned one aspect of the complaint back to the Met to investigate.”The IOPC, a police watchdog, ordered the Met to reinvestigate complaints relating to the process involved in appealing against the CPS decision, while it carried out a review of the Met’s decision to charge her.
