President Donald Trump and his family attended the National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral, marking the end of his official inaugural events. Melania Trump chose a black Prada coat and Roger Vivier pumps for the occasion, while Usha Vance opted for a more traditional ivory blouse and skirt.
President Donald Trump , first lady Melania Trump , U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and second lady Usha Vance attended the National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral. The gathering marked the end of Trump’s official inaugural events and the second time that the Trumps had attended a service in what is the world’s sixth-oldest cathedral. Less than two weeks ago they attended along with the now former President Joe Biden as his predecessors Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W.
Bush, as well as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Tuesday’s interfaith service looked considerably more subdued than Monday night’s Inaugural Balls. Trump and Vance had traded in their tuxedos for dark suits, white shirts and red ties. FLOTUS had swapped out the custom gown designed by her stylist for a black double-breasted Prada coat in wool felt with a fitted waist, and an oversized “géant” pocket on one side. Despite the fact that President Trump had said publicly Monday’s that his wife’s feet “hurt” after Monday’s Presidential Parade, she was back in a pair of pumps on Tuesday – from Roger Vivier. that was imprinted with a couple kissing to Carter’s funeral, Tuesday’s Prada-Vivier combination appeared to be standard church-appropriate choices. In fact, all of the 54-year-old’s inaugural fashions were fairly conservative in their silhouettes and colors. Trump favored black and white styles during the three-day celebration, from the white Dolce & Gabbana pantsuit that she wore to depart Palm Beach International Airport from on Saturday to Usha Vance also leaned on some tried-and-true colors, including the ivory blouse and long skirt she wore to Tuesday’s service. A strapless black velvet Oscar de la Renta gown, a dramatic white double breasted coat and a midnight blue one-shoulder gown were pieces in her Inaugural wardrobe. The peony-colored Oscar de la Renta cashmere coat with a wrap scarf and coordinating tea-length dress was more daring. Ditto for the strapless shimmery gown she sported on Inaugural night that looked akin to something worn by During Tuesday’s service, the Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde may have been trying to thaw interparty relations by closing with “one final plea” for the 47th President. Addressing him by name, Budde said, “…millions have put their trust in you. And as you said, you have felt the providential hand of our loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” she said. Budde also said there are LGBTQ citizens of all political creeds who now ‘fear for their lives.” She also referred to migrants, who may not be in the U.S. legally but are neighbors, workers and parents. Trump’s family members were on hand, as were his son Eric and daughter-in-law Lara – in a black and tan houndstooth coat. His daughter Tiffany, who is expecting her first child with her husband Michael Boulos, was also on hand sporting a maroon swing-skirted coat.
