Melaka to have 2,700 cops on duty on first two days of Raya

MELAKA: Some 2,700 policemen will be on duty during the first two days of Hari Raya as Melaka police anticipate more than 81,000 vehicles to be on the state roads during the festive season.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said more than 48,000 vehicles are also expected to enter the state two days before Hari Raya.“Only 10% out of 3,000 workforce in the contingent will be allowed to go on leave,” he said here after hosting a buka puasa event for the media on Monday night.

The stretches are Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin Highway; Jalan Umbai-Sungai Udang; Jalan Mufti Haji Khalil; Jalan Sungai Udang-Selandar; Batang Tiga/Bukit Rambai to Tanjung Minyak; Jalan Rembia-Kendong; Jalan Alor Gajah-Tampin; Jalan Masjid Tanah-Bukit Sedanan; Jalan Lubok China-Hutan Percha, Jalan Tehel-Bemban-Chabau, Jalan Merlimau-Jasin, Jalan Serkam-Kesang Tua and Jalan Gapam-Bemban.DCP Zainol said police would also monitor those setting off fireworks after midnight during the festive season.
