Jules Newmark, founder of the namesake newMark Models, created a 360-degree approach to fashion marketing and advertising while positioning the growth and happiness of the talent first. Part of her strategy is empowering her clients to set and achieve lofty goals.
A decade ago, most fashion runways and even commercial print ads looked very similar, with models all looking identical, as if they all came from the same mold. However, just recently, there has been a shift in diversity and inclusion, not only in race and ethnicity but in size, age and disability. Brands are realizing the power of using models that the everyday consumer can connect and relate to authentically.
and advertising while positioning the growth and happiness of the talent first. Part of her strategy is empowering her clients to set and achieve lofty goals. In doing so, she’s created The Guardian MGMT, a digital creator and content agency that aims to elevate an artist’s vision into reality. The agency represents models, surfers, singers, influencers and entrepreneurs. Newmark and her team work with global brands, including Guess, Skechers, Pretty Little Thing and Smashbox cosmetics.
“I wanted to start an all-female agency that was unique in a way that it was positive, uplifting, encouraging,” Newmark shares. “It was a family and a home for these young girls that they could feel safe in; they could feel like someone was looking out for them. That was something that I saw at the time was missing from our industry. A lot of the time, it’s very dark, and it’s very adult. It’s like, ‘We’ll just lose weight and figure it out.
Newmark began her career as an editorial assistant writing articles. She quickly realized that the publishing industry was shifting online and questioned whether she wanted to remain in the industry. She connected with a college classmate on social media who had posted about her modeling agency. She cold-emailed the agency’s owner, explaining her search for a new position and that her skill set might transfer over to the modeling industry.
They offered her a position. She was tasked with calling various brands to see if they were looking for models for any upcoming projects. She learned how to persuade others and how to be direct. As she gained experience in the industry, she knew this was what she was meant to do.
