Sean Drysdale travelled from Belfast, South Africa, to Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2020 but isn't finished exploring yet
Travelling up the motorway from Dublin to Belfast in 2020, the magnitude of the 25,000km trip he had just completed finally hit Sean Drysdale.
The 66-year-old left home in 1983 where he went to work in the army as a doctor, before returning home for a brief stint working for the NHS. He then moved to South Africa in 1997 and managed a district health service, and had been living there ever since, before recently making the move to Southern France.
He said: "I was visiting my sister in South Africa at Christmas and we were heading out towards Kruger Park and on the way we saw a town called Belfast. I thought that one day I was going to drive from there to Belfast in Northern Ireland - and that was that. "I started travelling just before lockdown happened. The day I arrived home was essentially the first day of it all - I arrived and there was me, and maybe three other people around Belfast City Hall."
"I'll be starting in Canada and finishing in Washington, with the plan being to do it during the riding season to avoid any inclement weather. I'm looking forward to it. I've had people across the US offering the use of a workshop or garage for any repairs I may need."
