Taberon Honie , who has been on death row for 25 years for the 1998 murder and sexual assault of his girlfriend’s mother Claudia Benn, has been ordered to be executed by lethal injection. Honie was in Fifth District Court in Cedar City, Utah on Monday, June 10, 2024.
The hearing is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. Honie is scheduled to be executed on August 8 for the 1999 murder conviction of Claudia Benn, his ex-girlfriend’s mother. Melissa G. Stirba, Vice Chair, was appointed by Governor Cox in March 2021. Stirba is an attorney with a law degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. Her legal career includes internships with prominent judges and roles in the Utah Federal Defenders Office and the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association.
