In celebration of its 60th year in existence, the Medina County Park District is spending much of 2025 opening new park spaces for the public to enjoy.

“Already on July 4 we opened the Zachary A. Weber Riverside Park in Valley City,” said Nate Eppink, director of the Medina County Park District. “This is honor of a young man who passed away in 2024. We had a lot of his friends and family there to celebrate. It is about 6.5 acres and is right off Center Road.” In September, Eppink said the park district is looking forward to opening Rivendell Nature Preserve. This 203-acre property is located partially in Westfield Center and partially in Westfield Township. “We will have a private ribbon cutting Sept. 19 and then opening weekend for this nature preserve is Sept. 20 and 21,” he said. Shotwell Gardens at Lake Medina is set to open with a private ribbon cutting Oct. 24 and the area will be open to the public Oct. 25 and 26. “This will be located at the corner of Foote and Weymouth roads and will be a third entrance into Lake Medina,” Eppink said. “It will feature some native plants and a bike repair station as well as a small amphitheater. It is nice natural stone seating and blends in well to the area and creates a nice gathering space.” While a date has not yet been set, Eppink said the park district plans to open phase one of public access to the former Chippewa Lake Amusement Park in October or November. This first phase will include a trailhead, a mile of trail, restrooms and a picnic shelter. Also before the end of the year, the park district plans to open Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve which includes 104 acres of open meadow and offers glimpses of the Rocky River.www.medinacountyparks.comIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
