Despite often being featured alongside Iron Man, Cheadle's Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes appeared without his best friend in Phase 5's Secret Invasion. Instead of suiting up as War Machine, however, Rhodey worked closely with the United States' President Ritson, but Secret Invasion eventually revealed that this wasn't Rhodey at all.
Rhodey's Skrull Timeline Can Entirely Change Avengers 5's Team Setup If there is confirmation that Rhodey was replaced by a Skrull shortly after the Avengers' battle in Captain America: Civil War, this means he'll have woken up in Secret Invasion with no memory of Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
As a member of Team Iron Man in Civil War, Rhodey fought against the likes of Sam Wilson, Scott Lang, and Clint Barton, meaning his relationships with these heroes will be strained in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Although Hawkeye's future in the MCU is unclear, it's likely that Wilson's Captain America and Lang's Ant-Man will be on the new Avengers team, and with Marvel Studios' Armor Wars expected to release in Phase 6, Rhodey likely will be, too.
Why Rhodey's Civil War Skrull Theory Is Best For Avengers 5 Avengers: The Kang Dynasty's formation of the new Avengers will be much more dramatic if several members of the team are at odds with each other, and this would perfectly mirror the first adventure for the original Avengers team in the MCU.
