PA Rising's chairman says the contribution was unrelated to the endorsement and that the PAC contributed to other county-level committees around the state.
Republican David McCormick entered the U.S. Senate race to challenge Sen. Bob Casey, a Democrat, on Sept. 21 and just nine days later he received the endorsement of the GOP state committee. Campaign finance records show that his PA Rising PAC gave the committee $50,000 on Sept. 6. U.S. Senate candidate David McCormick’s political-action committee gave $50,000 to the Pennsylvania Republican State Committee just weeks before its early endorsement, campaign finance records show.
When McCormick unveiled his PAC earlier this year, he said the goal was to help Republican candidates at the county and state level and increase voter turnout. A September endorsement in the 2024 primary race also stood out in light of the state committee’s decision last year to not endorse in the primary battle between McCormick and Dr. Mehmet Oz, who eventually won the nomination only to lose to now-Sen. John Fetterman in November 2022.
That unanimity has since been called into question, though, by comments from at least one state GOP committee member who was there.
