La principal fuente de nuevos residentes en Florida y Texas, los dos estados de Estados Unidos con las cifras más altas de residentes nuevos el año pasado, fueron otros países. Poco más del 45% de los cerca de 634.000 residentes de Florida que dijeron que había vivido en otro estado o en el extranjero el año anterior procedían de un país extranjero, de acuerdo con datos migratorios publicados por la Oficina del Censo.
Las cifras de migración no indican de qué países llegaron los nuevos residentes. Priscila Coronado se mudó el año pasado a Miami proveniente de Guatemala, buscando una vida mejor. “Vine para tener un futuro mejor”, comentó Coronado recientemente en entrevista con AP. “Mi sueño es estudiar, aprender inglés y sacar una carrera de enfermería … Aquí no hay mucha delincuencia y eso es un logro”, añadió.
