Mercedes has wasted no time teasing a facelifted Maybach S-Class draped in glowing badges, vertical grille slats, and enough illuminated branding to light a small runway
Maybach teases a refreshed S-Class with distinct styling cues. Photos highlight lighting details and signature luxury touches. Powertrain options will include a V12 and updated V8 engines. Maybach hasn’t lingered in rolling out a new ultra-luxury take on the heavily updated S-Class, arriving less than two months after the standard model broke cover.
Previewed through a series of teasers, this version looks aimed squarely at buyers who want something with a touch more presence and theater than a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The car retains the standard S-Class LED headlights, complete with star-shaped daytime running lights, but the grille shifts the tone entirely. It keeps the same basic outline, yet swaps horizontal bars for vertical slats, a signature Maybach cue. Up front, there is also an illuminated Maybach badge on the hood, joined by a glowing Three-Pointed Star ornament that leaves little doubt about where it sits in the pecking order. And that’s not the only glowing flourish. Elsewhere, the teasers highlight illuminated Maybach badges on the C-pillars and bespoke puddle lamps, each projecting Maybach branding. Owners of this flagship sedan will have little chance of mistaking it for a standard S-Class in the dark. The pre-facelifted S-Class has been sold in S 480 4Matic, S 580 4Matic, S 680 4Matic, and S 580 e configurations, and it’s likely that Maybach will continue to sell this new model with several different powertrains. There’s no confirmation yet on which version appears in these teasers or which will arrive first, though the range-topping S 680 seems the most likely candidate. What's Going On Under The Skin? If that’s the case, it could retain the outgoing model’s twin-turbocharged V12 engine, delivering 603 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. If we’re looking at the mid-range S 580, it will probably ditch the existing 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in favor of the new 4.0-liter biturbo V8, now fitted with a flat-plane crank. In the standard S 580, this engine delivers 530 hp and 533 lb-ft , substantial bumps from the old model’s 496 hp and 516 lb-ft . Mercedes-Maybach has yet to confirm a launch date, but an official debut is expected within the coming weeks or months.
