Updates for the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-class are more than skin deep. The ultimate Mercedes sedan debuts a new face and a more powerful V-8 engine—the V-12 remains an option too.The new Maybach S-class will go on sale in the latter half of 2026; pricing will be announced closer to its launch.
Some things precede others, like how dinner comes before dessert. That's just the way of the world. It's the same for Mercedes's top-flight sedans too, with the new Benz-branded S-class preordained to arrive before the ritzier Maybach version joins the lineup. In the case of the Benz, the 2027 S-class broke cover in January, bringing revised powertrains, a refreshed interior, and a totally new lighting design. Unsprisingly, the Maybach's changes follow a similar pattern. Let's dig in. The most striking visual change is that the Maybach's grille is now 20 percent larger, which gives the S-class a more commanding, albeit less sleek, look than before. The top of the grille is now etched with the Maybach name, flaunting its prestige, and the whole thing is illuminated. The Maybach logo on the C-pillar gets the illumination treatment as well. The optional three-pointed-star hood ornament can be lit up too—if you're willing to pay for it. Like with the Benz, the new Maybach's headlights now take on the shape of the Mercedes star. The inside of the headlight housing now sports rose gold elements and proudly displays the Maybach logo. It's a great look, but we don't envy whoever has to foot the bill for replacing them in a fender bender. Mercedes describes the goal of the interior's redesign as looking to 'deepen the signature Maybach cocooning experience.' In practice, the dashboard is now adorned with the MBUX Superscreen, which stretches from A-pillar to A-pillar. The software is backed by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System , which appears for the first time on a Maybach model. The rear seats face a new set of 13.1-inch displays, which now come as standard fare. A pair of remotes joins the screens for control over things like the infotainment, climate settings, and sunshades. Perhaps most importantly, the back seat has a new center console that now holds two bespoke cupholders designed for the optional silver-plated Robbe Berking champagne flutes. Fancy.Like with the rest of the Maybach, the changes under the hood mimic the regular S-class. The standard V-8 engine now makes 530 horsepower , and the peak torque rating is 553 pound-feet, 20 more than the Benz version. The 621-hp twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 is unchanged, but considering that the potent engine's 664 pound-feet of torque sent the last 5000-plus pound sedan we tested to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, we're ok with that. The new Maybach S-class is scheduled to go on sale in the United States at some point in the second half of 2026. There's no word on official pricing yet, but the current S580 starts at $233,500; the V-12-powered S680 starts at $270,750. However, the new Maybach may be considerably more expensive, given the import tariffs on cars from the European Union. ➡️ Skip the lot.
