The new all-day ice cream bar, bakery and coffee shop next door to the popular deli will showcase Jenn Riesman of Rooster Crow fame.
For Drew Glick , family is everything. His popular Max & Louie ’s New York Diner is named for his grandfather Louie Glick and great uncle Max Braverman . Now Drew Glick ’s late father, Melvin Glick, will have his moment when Melvin ’s opens next door to Max & Louie ’s at 6 this morning, a shop with a 12-bay rainbow of ice creams, a full coffee bar and a bakery overseen by a local superstar.

The star he recruited to craft the pastries and make the ice cream is San Antonio baker Jenn Riesman, whose coconut cream pie, chocolate babka and Rice Krispies treats have popped up at restaurants throughout the city before, during and after the opening and recent closing of her own North Side shop, Rooster Crow Bakery. Riesman will craft a rotating lineup of 12 American-style ice creams available by the cup, cone or cookie and fill the bakery cases with pies, cakes, cookies, bars, rugelach and gluten-free brownies and macaroons. Baristas at Melvin’s will create espressos, lattes, affogatos, iced coffees and other specialty drinks from coffee beans roasted locally by What’s Brewing Coffee Roasters. DONUTS : Best and worst doughnut chains Melvin’s will be open at 6 a.m. seven days a week, staying open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Everything at Melvin’s also can be ordered from the table at Max & Louie’s, with which Melvin’s shares an open wall space. One more note about Drew Glick’s family ties: No matter what else lands in the ice cream freezer, one flavor will always have a home. It’s a whirl of handmade chocolate ganache ice cream with graham crackers and homemade marshmallows called Mel-O-Mar.
