Vicki Vellios Briner | Special to PennLiveLast week, Bishop McDevitt’s defense was on its heels for large stretches of the night, pulling out a 28-21 win over Altoona.Fueled by a furious pass rush and swarming defensive backfield, Bishop McDevitt put together a dominant performance at Chapman Field on the road, topping Cumberland Valley 30-8.Maurice Barnes did a little bit of everything for Bishop McDevitt.
After trading three and outs, McDevitt would get back on the board, converting a 3rd-and-13 with a 17-yard completion to Diaz-Ellis, and eventually scoring on a Barnes touchdown run. And then, McDevitt would stomp out most hope of a comeback, as Jamison Crummel picked off a pass and returned it to the 32.
Saunders would drop back on the very next play and heave a pass deep, and while the ball was a bit underthrown, Diaz-Ellis leapt to bring in the pass in the end zone, and essentially put the game out of reach in the first half.“It was fun.
