Comedian Matt Rife has made a significant career move, leaving the competitive LA comedy scene for a quieter life in Rhode Island. He recently purchased 80 acres of property in the Ocean State, citing high real estate costs and the desire for a more balanced lifestyle as his reasons for relocating. He also highlights the thriving comedy scene in Providence and the proximity of Boston, which offers even more opportunities for comedic growth.
Comedian Matt Rife is making waves in both the comedy world and the Rhode Island real estate market. During an episode of the 'Bad Friends' podcast last August, Rife revealed to fellow comedians Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino that he had purchased an impressive 80 acres of property in Rhode Island . While initially not even considering the Ocean State, Rife was drawn to its allure.
He cited sky-high real estate costs in Los Angeles as a major factor in his decision to leave the notoriously competitive comedy scene. This trend of long-time residents seeking more affordable areas is becoming increasingly common, as evidenced by Rife's move.Rife emphasized three key factors on his checklist for a new home: value for his money, a vibrant comedy scene, and convenience for travel. He found all three in Rhode Island. Providence's 'Comedy Connection' provides a strong local scene, while Boston, just 45 minutes away, offers an even more expansive and renowned comedy hub. Rife humorously compared Providence to his Burbank Airport and Boston to his LAX, highlighting the accessibility of both locations. The comedian expressed his delight with his new property, stating that despite not being a morning person, he wakes up feeling happy every day. He even shared a lighthearted anecdote about purchasing the home during a spontaneous trip to Rhode Island while on tour in Connecticut. While performing at Mohegan Sun, Rife and his team stumbled upon the property while browsing online and were immediately impressed. Rife jokingly compared the purchase to the value of a single show at Mohegan Sun, emphasizing how much he loved it. Rife's success has been phenomenal, landing him the number two spot on Billboard's list of top ten highest-grossing comedy tours of 2024. His tour grossed an impressive $57.5 million, selling approximately 733,000 tickets across 256 shows. This success places him among the highest-earning entertainers in the industry, underscoring the immense popularity of his comedic talent
