Comedian Matt Rife has purchased 80 acres of property in Rhode Island, citing high real estate costs in Los Angeles as a motivating factor. He expresses his contentment with his new home and credits the vibrant comedy scenes in Providence and Boston as attractive aspects of the region.
Comedian Matt Rife is making waves in the comedy world and in the Rhode Island real estate market with his latest venture. During an appearance on the 'Bad Friends' podcast last August, Rife revealed to fellow comedians Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino that he had purchased 80 acres of property in Rhode Island . Rife admitted that Rhode Island wasn't initially on his radar, but something about the Ocean State drew him in.
He cited astronomical real estate prices as a primary reason for leaving Los Angeles' bustling comedy scene. The current state of the U.S. housing market is prompting many long-time residents to seek more affordable locations, including rising stars like Matt Rife, according to Billboard. Rife shared his criteria for finding the perfect property, prioritizing value, a vibrant comedy scene, and convenient travel options. Providence, with its 'Comedy Connection' club, and Boston, just 45 minutes away, fit the bill perfectly. He humorously compared Providence to his local airport and Boston to his major hub.Rife expressed genuine happiness with his new home, stating that despite not being a morning person, he wakes up feeling cheerful every day. He recounted how he purchased his current property during his first visit to Rhode Island before a show at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Intrigued by a listing on Zillow, he and his team decided to check it out, and he was instantly smitten. Rife's success in the comedy world is undeniable. In December, Billboard ranked the top ten highest-grossing comedy tours of 2024, and Rife secured the number two spot. His tour grossed over $57.5 million, selling approximately 733,000 tickets across 256 shows, trailing only Nate Bargatze. This accomplishment places comedians at the forefront of entertainment earners, highlighting the industry's booming popularity and financial success.
