The Rhinos confirmed Frawley as their third signing for 2024 this week.
It's fair to say that confirmation of Matt Frawley's move to Leeds Rhinos was certainly met with some scepticism among supporters. At Headingley, fans have become accustomed, perhaps even expectant, of big name signings.
There are, perhaps, more pertinent reasons behind the frustrations that have been aired. The club, barring their 2017 Grand Final win, has felt like one in transition since the end of 2015. Results, over that period of time, reflect that. This will be the sixth consecutive season Leeds Rhinos haven't finished in the top four of Super League.
Funnily enough, I was spending the day at the Giants on Frawley's first day with the club and what was clear was that he was a level-headed individual keen to get stuck into what Super League had to offer. You'll struggle to find anyone who was at the club back then who has a bad word to say about him and all the feedback from those involved at the time is that he was a great professional driven to succeed.
Since then, he has gone on to play more than another 20 NRL games but more pressingly, he has organised his own team while in the New South Wales Cup with Canberra. They have finished fourth in the competition this year and are in the finals, though he won't feature due to his involvement in the club's first grade at present. He will be the Raiders' starting halfback in their NRL finals game against in-form Newcastle Knights this Sunday.
