A 'master key' capable of opening thousands of mailboxes in Hoboken was stolen during a Monday night robbery. While police confirmed the incident, details about the stolen items remain undisclosed. This theft highlights a concerning increase in robberies against postal employees, particularly the targeting of 'arrow' or master keys, which can access various USPS mailboxes.
A “ master key ,” which can be used to open thousands of mailboxes across Hoboken , was stolen during a robbery Monday night, a source with knowledge of the incident said.
A representative for the United State Postal Inspection Service did not respond to a request for more information on the robbery. The key can open every USPS mailbox inside every high-rise and apartment building, as well as the “relay boxes” ― boxes on the street where mail is stored for a carrier during the course of his or her route, a source at the USPS who is not authorized to speak on the record told The Jersey Journal.
Hoboken spokeswoman Marci Rubin said the robbery occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Monday and that no one suffered serious injuries in the incident.
