A state Supreme Court ruling Tuesday all but cast a death knell over a $650 million judgement two Ohio counties won from chain pharmacy operators for their role in sparking an opioid epidemic.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

When the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals acts on the Ohio Supreme Court’s ruling, the judges will likely side with the companies in their appeal.. Lax dispensing practices prompted diversion and eventual substance abuse, the jury found. The counties drove the lawsuit on a legal theory that the defendants created a “public nuisance” by, in part, cultivating an opioid crisis.
