Spider-Man holds his hands to his head and looks incredibly worried.

Spider-Man probably ranks among the most kid-friendly superheroes in Marvel's roster of characters. There's a reason that one of Peter Parker's most famous monikers is"Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man".

Despite the general levity surrounding the character, however, there has always been just a touch of darkness to him. His origin story sees him making a selfish choice that results in the death of his lone father figure, Uncle Ben, setting Peter up as having a lot to learn. Still, even knowing the dark things Peter has done, no one could have predicted Spider-Man to deliver the coldest line in Marvel history. Kingpin Brought Out Spider-Man's Darker Nature By Crossing a Big Line One of Spider-Man's darkest storylines was 2007's Back in Black from J. Michael Straczynski and Ron Garney. The story takes place after Peter Parker revealed his identity to the public, and explores the fallout of that decision. The storyline begins with Aunt May taking a bullet meant to assassinate Peter, sending the wall-crawler on a rampage across New York to discover the culprit. His investigation eventually leads him to Kingpin. Donning his black suit, Spider-Man goes to confront Kingpin in Amazing Spider-Man #542. Except, when Peter finally gets to Fisk, he promises that Spider-Man won't kill Kingpin, Peter will. Taking his mask off, Peter delivers an epic beatdown, followed by a line that is Peter at his absolute darkest. At the end of the day, you're just a fat man with an attitude... A balloon just waiting for someone to stick a needle in it.Peter eventually decides that beating Fisk within an inch of his life is far more humiliating to New York's Kingpin of crime than killing him would be. If Aunt May dies, however, Peter promises he'll come back and finish the job. Spider-Man's Threat To Kingpin Proves Just How Brutal Peter Parker Can Be Though Peter is typically an affable guy, it's clear that his experiences with losing Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy have driven him to become incredibly protective of his loved ones, especially Aunt May and MJ. While that instinct can be good-natured, it can also lead Peter to some dark places. The fact that he fights Fisk as Peter Parker, as opposed to Spider-Man, proves just how personal the fight is. Despite the uneasy feeling the moment will undeniably inspire in many readers, it's also difficult to deny that Peter's threat to Fisk is just about the coolest quote in Marvel history. Unfortunately for Peter, however, this wouldn't be the last time Spider-Man comics would threaten Aunt May's life. Peter Parker is a beacon of hope and inspiration for millions across the globe. Seeing Spider-Man deliver such a brutal line, though, is further proof that many might be underestimating just how dark Marvel's wall-crawler can get.
