Judge Todd McKenney set his bond at $500,000, and he was taken to the Summit County Jail.
BARBERTON , Ohio - The Barberton Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a Virginia man accused of scamming an elderly resident out of over $100,000.According to the release, in April 2024, Ankit Patel, 28, told an elderly Barberton resident to pay him over $130,000 because her computer was allegedly hacked and her financial accounts were compromised.Investigators identified Patel and tracked him to an address in Virginia . There, he was arrested and later extradited to Barberton .
Barberton Police also stated in the release that Patel is not a U.S. citizen and that the Department of Homeland Security placed an immigration detainer on him.
