Robinson stated that the 'words of our Savior' and the 'costly litigation and political gamesmanship' by his detractors made continuing the legal battle against CNN a 'futile effort.' He also expressed that the 'continued political persecution of my family and loved ones' was a burden he was no longer willing to bear.
Robinson's announcement comes after a tumultuous period in his political career, which saw him embroiled in controversy over inflammatory comments allegedly made on a pornography website's message board over a decade ago. CNN reported that Robinson, between 2008 and 2012, used the website 'Nude Africa' to make statements where he called himself a 'Black Nazi,' admitted to enjoying transgender porn, and confessed to peeping on women in showers as a teenager. Robinson denied the allegations in a video released on X, stating he was committed to running for governor. Despite this, he lost the 2024 gubernatorial race to Democrat Josh Stein. In November, CNN's legal team filed to dismiss Robinson's defamation lawsuit, arguing that he had failed to demonstrate that CNN acted with 'actual malice.' Robinson concluded his statement by thanking his supporters and those who opposed him, emphasizing that they were all Americans.
