enters the 2023 NFL Draft as a four-year starter. An experienced blocker with the potential to move to guard, Evans’ versatility is intriguing teams throughout the pre-draft process. Evans was named First-Team All-SWAC in 2022.
It was one week before our first game against Morehouse. I got switched to left tackle. Coincidentally, our left tackle got injured. They threw me into the fire. I went out there and played left tackle against Morehouse. The rest is just history. As I get ready to put my best foot forward in the NFL, all of that repetition I’ve had at left tackle is going to help me tremendously. I’m very experienced. I’ve played in big games. It’s going to help me a ton moving forward.
I definitely feel like things are trending upward for the HBCU. We’re starting to put the world on notice like, hey, there’s talent here too. We can produce top talents just like the other conferences can. I watched the combine on television as a kid. I even got to participate in some of the promos. That was really cool for me . I did the interviews and everything. It was a great look for me coming from an HBCU. I never thought it was possible.Mark Evans II: I’ve met with the Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions through Zoom. I’ve had some great virtual meetings with offensive line coaches and things of that nature.
JM: That makes a lot of sense to me. Having played at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, some analysts will call you a “small-school prospect.” How do you typically respond to the competition questions? I personally find it disrespectful to the players in the SWAC and MEAC. We have high-caliber players just like any other conference. That’s how I respond to that question.
