Garza further explained that the I Marine Expeditionary Force will deploy approximately 500 Marines and Sailors to the southern border as an immediate reinforcement of active-duty military forces. This deployment aims to execute missions directed by the President to secure the border and defend the territorial integrity of the United States. On Wednesday, the Department of Defense (DOD) announced the deployment of 1,500 service members, along with air and intelligence assets, to the southern border. These additional troops will focus on constructing physical barriers along the border, according to a senior military official quoted by the DOD. The official projected that active-duty personnel will provide real-time situational awareness regarding individuals, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft while collaborating with CBP on operational maintenance, movement, and staging of assets. Furthermore, the DOD will offer airlift support to facilitate the deportation of over 5,000 individuals detained at the border.
