The White House announced on Friday that the Marine Corps is providing support to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in their mission to secure the southern border. A video accompanying the announcement showcases various scenes, including Marines collecting weapons near a border wall, patrolling with equipment alongside helicopters, and interacting with individuals seemingly in Border Patrol uniforms. The video begins with armored vehicles and Humvee-like vehicles moving near the wall.
Helicopters are then introduced, later shown stirring up dirt near the wall. A segment also features Marines engaged in conversation with someone wearing a Border Patrol uniform. The video concludes with Marines boarding a helicopter. First Lieutenant Troy Garza of the Marine Corps confirmed in a statement to The National News Desk (TNND) that helicopter units were deployed to observe landing zones and areas along the border, while also meeting with CBP agents. Garza stated that the I Marine Expeditionary Force will deploy approximately 500 Marines and Sailors to the Southern Border as a direct response to the President's directives to bolster border security and safeguard the territorial integrity of the United States. This deployment follows the Department of Defense's (DOD) announcement on Wednesday that 1,500 service members, along with air and intelligence assets, would be dispatched to the southern border. These additional troops, according to the DOD, will focus on establishing physical barriers along the border. A senior military official, quoted by the DOD, stated that the active-duty personnel are expected to provide real-time intelligence on individuals, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft along the southwest border, while also assisting CBP with maintenance, movement, and staging of their assets. The DOD also emphasized that they will provide airlift support to facilitate the deportation of over 5,000 detained individuals at the border. The announcement highlights President Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southern border on Monday, citing the need for immediate and comprehensive measures to address illegal immigration. The President directed the DOD to take all necessary actions to support the Secretary of Homeland Security in achieving complete operational control of the southern border, emphasizing the importance of national security and the safety of U.S. citizens
