The seven-year journey of filming Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek Generations back-to-back took an emotional toll on Marina Sirtis. As Counselor Deanna Troi, Sirtis was a series regular on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994.

In November 1994, Star Trek Generations brought the TNG cast to the big screen in the first of four feature films. Star Trek: The Next Generation had a rocky start creatively, and in how it was received by long-time Star Trek fans. By season 3, however, TNG hit its creative stride and became one of the finest science fiction TV series ever. Star Trek: The Next Generation was Primetime Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Dramatic Series in its seventh and final season, as the cast jumped to making movies. Marina Sirtis appeared on The Show People Podcast where host Andrew Keates askied how she felt when Star Trek: The Next Generation ended after seven years. Sirtis explained that it wasn't until after Star Trek Generations finished filming that she was "devastated" that Star Trek for her was over as a daily foundation of her life. Read Marina's quote and watch the clip below: Marina Sirtis: “Oh Jesus! I had three days off between the end of the show and when we started shooting Generations. Literally three days off, yeah. And when Generations finished, that was when it was over for me. And I was literally wandering the sets, they were turning the lights off, and I couldn’t leave. I literally couldn’t leave. I was just devastated. Michael Dorn was the funniest, ‘cause he was like, ‘I don’t care it’s over. I’m glad it’s over.’ makeup for seven years.Marina Sirtis: ”Yeah, exactly. Right? He cried so much his bloody nose fell off… But I was desolate when Star Trek was over. It was all I knew. I literally got the job like six months to the day after I’d arrived in America. I started filming a month after that, and that was my life for seven years. And I spent more time at the studio than I ever spent at home. And they were my family. They were really the only people I knew in America well, so I was really, really, really upset when it was over." Andrew Keates also joked about "the legacy of women drivers" Counselor Troi left behind after the USS Enterprise-D crashed in Star Trek Generations, and Marina Sirtis quipped, "That planet just came out of nowhere, all right?” Watch the clip below: As Marina Sirtis explained, Star Trek: The Next Generation's classic series finale,"All Good Things," was essentially filmed back-to-back with Star Trek Generations in 1994 so that the first TNG feature film could make its November theatrical release. Therefore, TNG didn't truly end for the cast until they wrapped their first movie. Star Trek: The Next Generation's cast then looked forward to reuniting every 2 to 3 years to make movies, with TNG releasing 1996's Star Trek: First Contact, 1998's Star Trek: Insurrection, and 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis. However, TNG's iconic actors never lost touch; they indeed became a family and have been in constant contact since 1987 to this day. Over 30 years later, Marina Sirtis jokes about perhaps Counselor Troi's most famous moment of being at the conn when the USS Enterprise-D crashed in Star Trek Generations. Troi was blamed for crashing the ship for years, although one can also argue that the Enterprise's saucer was doomed no matter what, and it was Deanna who managed to guide it onto Veridian III without loss of life. Star Trek: The Next Generation's heroes reunited on-screen once more in the acclaimed Star Trek: Picard season 3, with showrunner Terry Matalas giving the crew of the USS Enterprise-D one last glorious triumph. Sadly, TNG's Picard reunion was "quite depressing" for Marina Sirtis, who missed the legendary off-screen revelry of her cast. With Star Trek celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, Star Trek: The Next Generation shines as perhaps the most beloved series of the franchise. TNG celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2027, which will be the next big occasion for Marina Sirtis to be with her castmates. 246 9.1/10 9/10 Star Trek: The Next Generation 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-PG Drama Mystery Action Sci-Fi Release Date 1987 - 1994-00-00 Network Syndication Showrunner Gene Roddenberry Directors Cliff Bole, Les Landau, Winrich Kolbe, Rob Bowman, Robert Scheerer, Jonathan Frakes, Robert Wiemer, Gabrielle Beaumont, Alexander Singer, David Carson, Paul Lynch, Corey Allen, Patrick Stewart, Chip Chalmers, Joseph L.
